Biography: Aparna Sen is one of the most noted actor, director and screenwriter of Bengali cinema. She started her career in films at the very young age of 15. She starred in a film by Satyajit Ray, a close friend of her father. Her next film was Mrinal Sen’s Akash Kusum. She also worked with him on Mahaprithibi, which won her the best actress at the Moscow Film Festival. Her other ventures include Basanta Bilap, Baksa Badal and Chutir Fande (all with Soumitra Chatterjee) and Joy Jayanti, Memshaheb and Alor Thikana (all with Uttam Kumar). One of her Hindi movies include Imaan Dharam. In 1981, Sen donned the hat of a director with 36 Chowringhee Lane, which won the Best Director award at the Indian National Film Awards and also the Grand Prix (the Golden Eagle) at the Manila International Film Festival. Some of her other directed movies are Sati, Paroma, Mr and Mrs Iyer, Yugant, Paromitar Ek Din, 15 Park Avenue, The Japanese Wife and Goynar Baksho and Iti Mrinalini. All of these have received critical acclaim across the world. She is the mother Konkona Sen Sharma.
