Biography: Mahesh Manjrekar is an actor, director, writer and producer. He emerged from the marathi industry and carved his niche in Bollywood with his directorial debut Vaastav(1999) depicting the plight of those caught in the Mumbai underworld. The film was critically acclaimed and was a hit and won awards like prestigious awards like Filmfare, Screen Weekly and IIFA. His movie Astitva (2000) which was made in marathi and hindi, and also won high praise and gave him the National Award for Best Regional Film (Marathi) and Screen Weekly Awards for Best Story (Marathi). The talented director- producer also became renowned for his other films like Viruddh... Family Comes First (2005), Kurukshetra, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai, Hathyar, Pyaar Kiya Nahi Jaatha, Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi to name a few. He forayed into Bengali cinema with Mithun Chakraborty starrer film Ami Shubhash Bolchi. He has also acted in Hindi films and his role in Sanjay Gupta’s film Kaante(2003) stood out and he won the IIFA Best Performance in a Comic Role. He has also acted in Musafir, Dus Kahaniyaan, Slumdog Millionaire, Wanted, Teen Patti, Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard and Oh My God, or Telugu film Okkadunnadu (2007) and the film Slumdog Millionaire (2008). He has also appeared on TV in the serial C.I.D and Jhalak Dikhla Ja. Manjrekar’s has directed Marathi films like Me Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy, Shikshanachya Aaich Gho, box office successes, and Fakta Ladh Mhana and Kaksparsh. He also contested elevtion as MNS Candidate from Mumbai North West in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections but lost.
