Biography: Legendary actor Manoj Kumar (born Harikrishna Giri Goswami) is also called ' Bharat Kumar' for his patriotic movies that built love and pride for our nation in the hearts of all Indians. Manoj Kumar landed his first leading role in Kaanch Ki Gudia (1960). He went on to give hit movies like Hariyali Aur Raasta, Woh Kaun Thi?, Himalaya Ki God Mein, Do Badan, Upkar, Patthar Ke Sanam, Neel Kamal, Purab Aur Paschim, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, and Kranti. He was one of the most popular heroes of the 60's and 70's. He is known for acting in and directing films with patriotic themes. His 1965 film Shaheed based on the life of Bhagat Singh, Upkaar (1967) a story with slogan Jai Jawan Jai Kissan (hail the soldier, hail the farmer) in the centre point and Purab Aur Paschim (1970) created his image as a patriotic hero. Kumar has won numerous awards for his heart-rendering movies like Shor (1972) as well as movies with a social theme. In 1992, he was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
