Biography: Hailing from the illustrious Kapoor family of Bollywood, Shashi Kapoor (born Balbir Raj Prithviraj Kapoor) showed his acting prowess from the tender age of four. He worked as an assistant director in Sunil Dutt’s debut film Post Box 999 as well as in Guest House. Shashi Kapoor made his debut as a leading man in Dharmputra. Sharmelee (the movie in which he was paired against Rakhee) went on to become a huge hit and the pair was cast in a number of movies later. He has also worked with Sharmila Tagore and Zeenat Aman. Kapoor starred in the critically acclaimed New Delhi Times (1859), which earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor in 1986. Shashi Kapoor was one of the earliest Bollywood actors to have forayed into the international film industry having acted in many Western and British movies such as The Householder, Shakespeare Wallah, Bombay Talkie, Heat and Dust, Side Streets and The Deceivers. Shashi Kapoor was bestowed with the prestigious Padma Bhushan in 2011, among other awards and accolades.
