Vidya had to go through 40 screen tests and 17 make-up shoots before she was chosen for the lead role in 'Parineeta'.
Vidya is reportedly obsessed with cleanliness and reportedly suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The actress is very organised and even if she spots little dust somewhere, she starts cleaning it herself.
During 2003 Vidya signed-up to play a role in a Bengali movie 'Bhaalo Theko' opposite Joy Sengupta. This project was completed in 2006 though, and became a decent hit. She won the best actress award - Anand Lok Puraskar - for the movie in Kolkata.
She is an ardent devotee of Shri Sai Baba and makes it a point to to go the temple every Thursday.

I was replaced in another Tamil film with the excuse that I could not act. They made me feel ugly to the point where I was scared to look in the mirror.
