Biography: Amitabh Harivanshrai Bachchan is regarded as the superstar of Hindi cinema. He first gained popularity in the early 1970s as the "angry young man", and has since appeared in over 180 Indian films in a career spanning more than four decades. Amitabh is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential actors in the history of Indian cinema. Apart from the numerous awards he has won, he has been the recipient of the National Award thrice. He has also been conferred with the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan awards. He recently made his Hollywood debut with The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio. He made his Hindi film debut with Saat Hindustani. His first major break was the Rajesh Khanna starrer Anand. Initially, none of his films, except Bombay to Goa did well. It was Zanjeer that established him as an actor. Thereafter he delivered hits like Abhimaan, Majboor, Chupke chupke, Sholay, Deewar, Don, Kabhi Kabhi, Silsila, Parvarish, Trishul, Muquadar ka sikandar, Shaan, Shakti, Laawaris, amongst scores of others. He became a superstar. He tried his hand at politics and film production with ABCL but both didn’t take off. He faced a lull in his career in the early 90s but he resurfaced with the quiz show Kaun banega crorepati. His movies in the second innings of his career include Kabhi khushi kabhi ghum, Mohabattein, Baghban, Bunty aur babli, Eklavya, Nishabd, Sarkar, Paa, Cheeni Kum and the English language film The Last Lear. Apart from KBC, he hosted one season of Big Boss and starred in a TV series called Yudh. He is a playback singer and narrator too. He is married to actress Jaya Bhaduri, has a son – actor Abhishek Bachchan and daughter – Shweta Nanda.
