Biography: Gina Lollobrigida ( full name Luigina Lollobrigida ) is an Italian actress, photojournalist and sculptor. She was one of the most famous European actresses in the 1950s and 1960s era. She started her career with Italian films like Bread, Love and Dreams (Pane, amore e fantasia, 1953), The Wayward Wife (1953) and in Woman of Rome (1954). She also worked in French films like Fearless Little Soldier (Fanfan la Tulipe, 1952), Beauties of the Night (Les Belles de nuit, also 1952) and Le Grand Jeu (1954). Her first widely seen English language film was Beat the Devil (1953), followed by movies like World's Most Beautiful Woman (also known as Beautiful But Dangerous, 1955), Trapeze (1956), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1956), Never So Few (1959), Solomon and Sheba (also 1959), to name a few. In the later part of her life she established second careers as a photojournalist and sculptor and came into news for gaining an exclusive interview with Fidel Castro, the Communist dictator of Cuba. She is associated with the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) and received the NIAF Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. In 2013, she sold her jewelry collection, and donated the nearly $5 million from the sale to benefit stem cell therapy research.
