Biography: Meena Kumari is remembered as the tragedy queen of Hindi cinema. She excelled at playing grief-stricken and tragic roles, like one of her best-known roles, Chhoti Bahu , in Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962). She is regarded as one of the most prominent actresses to have appeared on the screens of Hindi Cinema. Meena Kumari was born Mehjabeen Bano and was the third daughter of Ali Baksh and Iqbal Begum. They weren’t financially sound and so her father had to leave her in a Muslim orphanage. She has more than 90 movies to her credit. Meena Kumari fell in love with and married film director, Kamal Amrohi, who was fifteen years older than her and was already married. Later, she became romantically involved with Dharamendra. She was also a noted Urdu poet. She has won many awards at Filmfare in the Best Actress category. She died after the release of Pakeezah, as she fell seriously ill of liver cirrhosis.
