Biography: Prasanna Vithanage is a Sri Lankan film director of acclaim. He made his debut with the feature film Sisila Gini Gani (1992; English: Ice of Fire). The movie opened to positive reviews and also won nine OCIC (Sri Lanka) awards, including Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress. After a four-year hiatus, he made his second film titled Anantha Rathriya (1996; English: Dark Night of the Soul). At the 1996 Sri Lanka Film Critics Forum Awards (affiliated with FIPRESCI), the film won a number of awards including the Most Outstanding Film, Best Director and Best Screenwriter. Pawuru Walalu (1997; English: Walls Within), his third feature, won the Best Actress Award for Nita Fernando at the 1998 Singapore International Film Festival. The movie went on to win ten awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, at the Sri Lanka Film Critics Forum Awards. His fourth feature, Purahanda Kaluwara (1997; English: Death on a Full Moon Day) won the Grand Prix at the Amiens Film Festival. His other films include Ira Madiyama (2003; English: August Sun), Akasa Kusum (2008; English: Flowers of the Sky) and Oba Nathuwa Oba Ekka (2012; English: With You, Without You).
