Biography: An erstwhile sub-inspector with Mumbai Police, Raaj Kumar turned to acting with the film Rangeeli in 1952. His real name is Kulbhushan Pandit. He became famous with the movie Naushervan-e-adil. He played the brief but important role of Nargis’ husband in Mother India. His other notable movies were Waqt, Paigham, Dil ek mandir, Hamraaz, Heer Ranjha, Lal Patthar and Pakeezah. Known for his dialogue delivery, he graduated to character roles later and did prominent films like Saudagar, Kudrat, Jung Baaz, etc. He has done some 60 odd films in his career. He died of lung cancer in 1996. He married Jennifer, an air hostess, who was later renamed Gayatri. They had three children – son Puru and daughters Panini and Vastavikta.
