Biography: Lovingly called Kaka, Rajesh Khanna was the first superstar of Indian cinema. He has many accolades to his credit – he gave 15 solo hits consecutively, he played solo lead in 106 movies, he had 35 golden jubilees and 22 silver jubilees. He has received numerous awards for his acting as well as the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. He passed away on 18 July 2012 and was awarded the Padma Bhushan posthumously. A postage stamp with his picture was also released. Having acted in 180 films, he was declared as the First Superstar of India at the Dadasaheb Phalke Awards. Born Jatin Khanna and raised by foster parents, Kaka started off with theatre. He then came to Mumbai from Amritsar to try his luck in films. He befriended Ravi Kapoor and both adopted the screen names Rajesh and Jeetendra respectively. He won a talent contest and got his break with Akhri Khat. He starred in movies like Aradhana, Ittefaq, Haathi mere saathi, Aapki kasam, Saccha jhoota and Anand. He then entered politics and was a Lok Sabha member for Congress. He was married to actor Dimple Kapadia and has two daughters Twinkle and Rinke.
