Rani Mukerji is a famous Bollywood actor known for her remarkable acting talent. She is known for her performance in films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Ghulam, Black and Talaash to name a few. She was born in Mumbai on 21 March 1978 to a film-oriented family of Bengali origin. Her father, Ram Mukherjee, is a retired director while her mother, Krishna, was a playback singer. Famous Bollywood star Kajol is Rani’s cousin.
Rani was schooled at Maneckji Cooper High School in Juhu, and graduated from SNDT Women’s University in the subject of Home Science. Despite her family background, Mukerji was never interested in becoming an actor. Her father was strictly against Rani working in films, despite the family’s film background. Rani even turned down the offer of working in Salim Khan’s 1994 film Aa Gale Lag Jaa. Later Rani, on the instance from her mother, decided to work in films just for fun. she made her acting debut with a cameo appearance in the Bengali film Biyer Phool (1996), on the insistence of her mother. The following year, Mukerji made her Hindi film debut with Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat. But it was Karan Johar’s blockbuster romantic film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) catapulted Rani into our collective conscious. The film also won her a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. After that film Rani has shown her acting prowess in numerous commendable films such as Hum Tum, Saathiya, Chalte Chalte, Bunty Aur Babli, Veer-Zaara , Black, No One Killed Jessica and Talaash.
