Biography: Sandip Ray (the son of noted Bengali director Satyajit Ray), is a Bengali director. His tryst with the world of filmmaking was at the age of 22 when he worked as an assistant director on his father's film Shatranj Ke Khiladi (1977; English: The Chess Players). His first film as a director was Phatik Chand (1983), which received an award in the International Children's Film Festival in Vancouver. Sandip Ray was also the director of photography on Satyajit Ray's last three films, Ganashatru (1989; English: An Enemy of the People), Shakha Proshakha (1990; English: The Branches of the Tree) and Agantuk (1991; English: The Stranger). Some of Ray’s more recent works include Chaar (2014), Jekhane Bhooter Bhoy (2012), Royal Bengal Rohosso (2011), Gorosthaney Sabdhan (2010), Hitlist (2009), Tintorettor Jishu (2008) and Kailashey Kelenkari (2007). He won the National Film Award – Special Jury Award / Special Mention (Feature Film) at the 34th National Film Awards for Himghar.
