Biography: Born into a family of artists, Santosh Sivan was introduced to the paintings of Raja Ravi Verma from a very tender age by his grandmother. With her, began his earliest teachings in art and music. His father was a documentary film maker and was a kid, he eagerly volunteered to help and accompany him in his trips. This early exposure to the arts had a deep bearing on his mind. Equipped with a degree from the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Santosh Sivan has till date 45 feature films and 41 documentaries under his belt. He is the founding member of Indian Society of Cinematographers (ISC) and is the most awarded Director of Photography (DOP) in India. He is also one of the first Cinematographer in the Asia-Pacific region to be honoured with American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) membership. With five National Film Awards – including four for Best Feature Film Cinematography and eleven National Film Awards, Sivan’s work speaks for itself.
