Biography: Tom Alter is an Indian film and theatre actor of American origin. He dreamt of becoming an actor after he saw Rajesh Khanna romancing Sharmila Tagore in the movie Aaradhana. Inspired by his acting, Alter joined the Film and Television Institute of India. Some of the more memorable movies that Tom Alter has been part of are Kranti, Shatranj Ke Khilari, Sardar, Des Pardes, Gandhi, Parinda, Aashiqui, Junoon, Veer-Zara, Yours, Maria and Bheja Fry among others. He has also acted in the Hollywood film One Night with the King directed by Peter O’Toole. Adajya is an Assamese film that he has acted in. During his career, Tom Alter has worked with the theatre and has been part of plays such as Maulana, Waiting for Godot, etc. In 1977 he along with Naseeruddin Shah and Benjamin Gilani formed a theatre group called Motley Productions. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Indian Government in 2008 for his contribution to the performing arts.
