Ishaqzaade actor Parineeti Chopra wants to flirt with current heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor

Actor Parineeti Chopra says if she has an option to flirt with someone in Bollywood, it would be the current heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor. Mesmerised by the young Kapoor scion, the Ishaqzaade actor calls him “one of her favourite actors of the current generation”.

And why not? After his unimpressive debut with Saawariya in 2007, Ranbir climbed up the success ladder with his performances in Rocket Singh – Salesman Of The Year, Wake Up Sid, Raajneeti, Rockstar and Barfi! and has become an actor to reckon with. His forthcoming is Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and he also has Besharam and Anurag Basu’s untitled biopic on legendary singer Kishore Kumar in the pipeline.

“If I had to choose (whom to flirt with in Bollywood) then it would be Ranbir Kapoor,” said Parineeti, who made her debut with 2011 film Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and later featured in political thriller Ishaqzaade. The 24-year-old was talking at the launch of Chinese Internet giant Tencent’s WeChat messenger application.

Currently endorsing a host of different brands, she said, “For me, I need to have some kind of a personal connect. I am endorsing a few different brands right now and I have some personal connect with all those brands. Either I have used it in my childhood or I am using it currently,” added the actor, seen in commercials for Maaza and Kurkure, among others.

As far as films are concerned, Parineeti is busy shooting for Hasee Toh Phasee with Sidharth Malhotra.

The decision to unveil the trailer of Rajinikanth starrer Kochadaiyaan at Cannes was called off at the last minute

As the team of Kochadaiyaan is still working on the final output of the trailer, the film couldn’t make it to the 66th Cannes International Film Festival. ” The trailer is shaping out well. I’m working on more surprises. All efforts are going in to release it as soon as possible,” posted the film’s director Soundarya Ashwin on her Twitter page. A source from the film’s unit revealed, ” We were all set to go to the festival, but our director was not happy with the final output of the trailer. She didn’t want an unsatisfactory promo to be released at the festival and, therefore, opted out of it.” Rajinikanth, who was supposed to attend the festival to promote his film also cancelled his plans.

Kochadaiyaan is touted to be India’s first motion-capture feature film made along the lines of Hollywood films like Tin Tin and Avatar. It also features Deepika Padukone, Aadi Pinisetty, R. Sarath Kumar, Jackie Shroff and Shobana in important roles. The music is by Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman.

The film is being jointly produced by Eros International and Media One Global Entertainment.

Ranbir Kapoor made a visit to Kanpur recently to promote his new film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani starring Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapur. But unfortunately Ranbir didn’t quite have the time of his life there. A huge crowd waited for him to make an appearance. It seems the mob was uncontrollable. And looks like all the brouhaha took a toll on the Kapoor kid’s health. He was quite unwell because of which he even refused to catch up with the media.

He just made a brief appearance and requested his fans to watch his next film. RK admirers were quite disheartened with the actor’s behaviour. In fact a couple of them also pestered the cops so that they could go inside the hotel where the actor was staying and have a glimpse of the Saawariya dude.

The Rockstar babe has finally bagged a role in David Dhawan’s next

Rockstar actress Nargis Fakhri has bagged a ‘key’ role in Varun Dhawan-starrer Main Tera Hero. The movie, produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, will be directed by Varun’s father David Dhawan. Female Actor Ileana D’Cruz, whose performance in Barfi! was widely appreciated, is already a part of the movie.

“Ileana and Nargis are playing key roles in the film Main Tera Hero,” said Girish Johar, head of acquisition and distribution, Balaji Motion Pictures. “Details are being worked upon,” he added.

Main Tera Hero, which will go on floors this June, is slated to release April 4, 2014. It is expected to be a commercial project, aimed at entertaining the youth and family audience.

Angad Hasija, who was last seen in Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai playing the role of a mentally challenged man, now enters Rajan Shahi’s Amrit Manthan as a Punjabi munda

Television actor Angad Hasija, the latest entrant in Amrit Manthan, says his character in the show will confuse the audience. “This is a different character. He is a Punjabi boy from Amritsar. He is positive, but people will be confused about my character. He is a mysterious character and his many shades will be seen,” said Angad.

Reports say that Hasija got other offers, but he chose his mentor Rajan Shahi‘s Amrit Manthan that comes on Life Ok. “I had two-three shows. But the most important thing was that the show is by Rajanji. Whatever I am today is because of him… I was free and I was like I have to do this,” said Hasija, who worked in Shahi’s Sapna Babul Ka… Bidaai.

Meanhile the actor is disappointed with Savitri. “I had a bad experience. But the channel is not to be blamed as it was all about the storyline. I have good relations with Star and have worked with them before. I was hurt because this happened to me. The problem was because of the story as it changed suddenly,” he said.

So, he wants to concentrate on Amrit Manthan. “I always wanted to do a Punjabi character. I have finally got it and I am fully concentrating on the show. I hope that people like it,” he said.

While Amitabh Bachchan opened the glitzy gala expressing gratitude to the organisers for inviting him in his trademark rich baritone, the Kahaani star Vidya Balan was spotted setting the red carpet on fire with her unmistakable ooh la la factor. Vidya is a special jury member at this year’s Cannes.

Pakistani actress Veena Malik, who was linked to actor Ashmit Patel post their Bigg Boss 4 stint, says he was never her friend and that she only believes in maintaining friendship with her career.

During Bigg Boss 4, the two seemed to have bonded well, and were also seen together at various events post the show. But both Veena and Ashmit never gave a clear picture about their relationship. The two are also working together in the film Supermodel. “Ashmit was never my friend. We met in Bigg Boss and after that we have not met. I am just working. I have friendship only with my career,” said Veena.

“I have no connection with anyone whom I met in Bigg Boss. They don’t even exist in my life,” she added.

The actress, who is currently busy with her Bollywood films and some Kannada and Telugu projects, says she has an “amazing” connect with people in India.“It’s a very amazing country. Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor seems to be as busy as his son Ranbir Kapoor. The 60-year-old is excited about the total of seven releases he has this year, and that he plays different characters in each one of them.

” I am looking forward to lot of films this year. I have seven releases – one just released, Chashme Badddoor and then Aurangzeb. And then (I have) five more films – D-Day, two more films to be directed under Yash Raj Films banner, and Kaanchi and Besharam. These are very interesting roles and films,” said Rishi

“I’m very passionate about my work and for me, work is great enjoyment. It’s a great learning curve and good journey as an actor. All my characters are different from each other,” he added.

Meanwhile, the actor’s look in Nikhil Advani’s D-Day has created quite a stir. The 60-year-old says a lot of work went behind it.“We have worked on the character and a lot on the look. I have received so many messages congratulating me. The look has created quite a stir, and I am looking forward to that film.” 

With some intresting projects lined up for both Ranbir and Rishi in the days to come, there will be a healthy competition between the Kapoor baap-beta this year and we certainly aren’t complaining!

The Raanjhanaa actor feels men sometimes bring negativity into women’s life

Bollywood’s chirpy, young and fashionable actor Sonam Kapoor loves being surrounded by her ilk and feels men sometimes “bring negativity” into women’s lives. The 27-year-old, who has played feminine roles in films like Aisha and I Hate Luv Storys enjoys the company of women. “I love girls, I surround myself with only women. I think men bring negativity into your life sometimes. Only women work with me,” said Sonam in an interview.

She may not have been wise in choosing her roles, but the actor has proved that she never goes wrong in making style statements. She admits it’s a challenge to innovate winning looks every time she steps out. “It is a challenge and that is why you have great products to help you and I have great people to help me look good. When you see me normally, I don’t look so good,” she said.

Terming herself a bit “self-obsessed”, Sonam admitted that it is her sister, Rhea Kapoor, who gives styling tips to her dad, actor Anil Kapoor. “My sister is really good at that. I am really self-obsessed; so I only concentrate on myself,” the 27-year-old confessed.

While tackling a tough work schedule, Sonam stays fit by following a strict food regime. “I eat right, I have a nutritionist who takes care of me. I have people who are constantly firing me to drink enough water. It’s about eating right, drinking enough water and being happy in general…surrounding yourself with positive, happy people,” she said.

As far as acting is concerned, she will next be seen in Raanjhanaa, Bhaag Mikha Bhaag, the Khoobsurat remake and Yash Raj Films’ untitled project. She says her endeavour is to be different on screen every time. “Raanjhanaa is a very real character. She is a serious person. I don’t think one character has also been similar to my last character. The characters that I have in Raanjhanaa, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Khoobsurat and YRF’s untitled film, all are very different. They are about girls with incredibly different characters and journeys,” said Sonam.

Raanjhanaa will see her teaming up with southern star Dhanush and she said: “I love Aishwarya and Dhanush. They are the most amazing couple. I can call Dhanush a really good friend now. He is so respectful and modest and an incredible actor.”

Is Sonam ready to step into the South Indian film industry?

“I would love to do a Southern film. I saw how tough it was for Dhanush, so I am scared about it,” she said.

The Policegiri actor was shifted from the anda cell to another cell upon an oral application by his lawyer to the Tada court

Sanjay Dutt who surrendered on May 16 before the special TADA court in Mumbai in order to complete his three-and-a-half year sentence in prison, was worried about the conditions in jail. The troubled Bollywood actor was convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case for possession of arms including AK-56 rifles.

After surrendering, Dutt was allowed to carry the Bhagavad Gita, Hanuman Chalisa and Ramayana with him. The court also permitted him home cooked food, medicines, a pillow, a mattress and toiletries. But being sent in the cell at Arthur Road Jail that hold terrorists and other dreaded criminals, 53-year-old actor read some spiritual books he brought along with him. He also did physical exercise this morning. However, the actor appeared restless and kept to himself.

On Friday Dutt’s lawyer Rizwan Merchant, appeared before the Tada court and argued that Dutt was not a terrorist and did not deserve to be lodged in the anda cell. Apparently, the absence of ventilation made him restless. He was later shifter from the anda cell to another cell.

Depending on the threat perception to his life officials have to choose between Yerawada in Pune, Nashik, Taloja, Kolhapur and Nagpur prisons. It looks like he might be here for the next seven to eight days until the pofficials decide which jail to shift him to.

Bollywood is set to have its own Rambo! Yes, a little birdie has chirped to us that director Sanjay Gupta is keen to work with John Abraham to produce an action drama of a massive scale.

After the box office success of the recently released Shootout At Wadala, John and Gupta are planning to come together again for a venture that is already being hailed as an epic revenge saga. The proposed project will be on the lines of Hollywood blockbusters like Kill Bill and Django Unchained.

We hear that Gupta could think of no one better than John to essay the larger than life role of Rambo-esque protagonist since John has the body and attitude to carry off the character and is synonymous with action.

We agree with Gupta. John certainly has the physique to play our very own Rambo but we would only be glad if the 40-year-old macho star also pays equal attention to his not so flattering acting chops and surprises us with his performance. Wink-wink!

Designer Sabyassachi Mukherjee, the man behind styling Vidya Balan’s look at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival, says that as India is known as a colourful country he used a little embellishment to bring freshness

Vidya Balan made three appearances in traditional Indian costumes – maroon lehenga, an ivory saree paired with a brown blouse and light pink anarkali – on three different occasions on the festival inaugural day Wednesday. Sabyasachi Mukherjee says she was dressed in ‘a purist ethnic look, almost like a Golconda princess’.

Drawing inspiration from William Dalrymple’s book The White Mughal and the bygone days of princesses, the outfits were made with Indian textiles such as khadi, kanjeevaram, handspun cottons, and Benarsi textiles. The designs were accessorised with traditional jewellery, strings of pearls, sapphires and beautifully set polkis by Amrapali and Pankaj Surana.

“India has always been a country of excess, rather than minimalism. We brought back what India truly stands for. Cannes saw a representation of Indian textiles and handicrafts. The jewellery is by Pankaj Surana and Amrapali,” the designer said in a statement.

The action-thriller directors gear up to make a mushy love story

Abbas-Mustan, the identically dressed director duo, besides being known for wearing synchronising shades of white, are also known for their thrillers. Over the last two decades, the two brothers have only chosen to make crime thrillers or suspense dramas like Baazigar, Humraaz and recently Race 2.

Currently though, the men in white are busy preparing for the Hindi remake of Vettai. They have decided to cast John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan in the action packed remake. And after they complete this one, for which they still have to finalise the female leads, the two will start their romantic project. “They’ve never really explored the genre. They have had romantic bits in their film, but this is the first time that they are making an all-out romantic film. They are working on the details, but the film will go on floors next year,” said a source.

Baz Luhrmann’s lurid, 3D take on F Scott Fitzgerald’s novel works despite itself

Jay Gatsby’s doomed love for Daisy Buchanan is in danger of getting subsumed in the glitter of 1920s New York, which unravels in a montage of Charleston and chatter, but the film, The Great Gatsby thankfully finds its soul just in time. The director of Moulin Rouge – in familiar territory as he painstakingly recreates the Jazz Age when mammon ruled the New York of lofty mansions and giddy parties – rescues his film to leave behind an aching loss of a love that was never to be.

It’s a much loved, much discussed book. The enigmatic fabulously rich Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio, quite wonderful) who hosts heady parties and the callow Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan) with her wealthy, not quite genteel and definitely racist husband Tom (Joel Edgerton).

She lives in East Egg and he in West Egg across the bay hoping that she will one day waltz into one of his parties, fabled in all of New York. They were once in love but she gave up on him and got married instead. And he, now rich just for her, waits. And waits,

Watching from the sidelines is the silent Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), Daisy’s cousin, through whose eyes the story unravels as he writes a book.

Till the interval, their story seems almost lost as the director, it seems, concentrates all his efforts in setting the backdrop. The filming is loud, often over the top. Snowflakes coming at you through 3D, pearl necklaces flying in wild abandon, words from Nick’s book floating in the air. In contrast is the dark, edgy world between the city and the affluent suburbs, the valley of ashes.

And then, just when I’d about given up finding the connect that I had been looking for, this gilded, conflicted world comes alive. The scene at Nick’s cottage when a nervous Gatsby waits to meet Daisy after five years is very effective. Thanks in great measure to DiCaprio, whose jumpiness well almost jumps out – and not because of the 3D.

The pivotal scene at the Plaza where the denouement of the troubled trio plays out is also well done. Gatsby pleads with increasing urgency to Daisy that she declare her love for him and tell Tom so; Daisy goes from certainty to confusion and Tom from appealing to her to confident. The shift is subtle and absolute.

I watched Robert Redford’s rendition of Gatsby many moons ago. And loved him. DiCaprio as Gatsby comes very close. He is in command as always and manages to breathe life into his role just when you were giving up on him.

DiCaprio said recently that he looked at the film not as a love story but as a man “obsessed with a version of the past”. And he manages to convey some of that complexity.

Mulligan’s portrayal of the shallow Daisy who goes for security without a second glance could have had more shades in it and Maguire is competent as Carraway.

But the best for the last. Amitabh Bachchan is good, very good as Meyer Wolfsheim, Gatsby’s business partner. Fitzgerald had envisaged him as a ‘small, flat-nosed Jew’. Bachchan is neither small nor flat-nosed but leaves an impression.

Though Bachchan had said it’s a blink and miss role, it is definitely more than that. He lives the role of rakish, wicked Wolfsheim. It’s a commanding presence.

Anil Kapoor as the rich Indian businessman in Mission Impossible 4 was frankly embarrassing but Bachchan’s portrayal of a Jewish businessman does open up possibilities for Indian actors looking for non-stereotypical roles.

The film sometimes unfolds with the rapidity of comic book images – cars zipping, women dancing et all. And the 3D is an annoying distraction in what should be an intense retelling of age-old relationships.

But stay with the film. And you won’t regret it. Do watch.

The trouble with a well-meaning film such as this is it cannot take the story and characters to their logical conclusion and somewhere ends up ‘tale’-diving at crucial junctures in the plot

Amit Kasaria’s I Don’t Luv U starts with Yuvaan (Ruslaan Mumtaz) and his college friends in Delhi whose only pass time is chasing dreams. The ogling, gawking, giggling, nudging, and winking references to campus courtship, though neatly filmed by cameraman Saurav Vishwakarma, occupies too much space in the first hour of the story when we are told, with far less subtlety than needed, that Yuvaan is an incorrigible flirt.

Yuvaan says he believes in ‘sex at first sight’ and he isn’t joking. Later, when he gets into a sexual situation with a girl, he jumps off his bedroom windowsill.

Enter the NRI beauty, all sweetness and kindness played by newcomer Chetna Pande. Now here’s where the plot needed to get piping hot. We wait to see Yuvaan soften the innocent campus queen, a sort of Delhi University version of Rani Mukerji in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and push her to do things she and he would regret later.

Instead the film goes into long-winded explanations on how Yuvaan doesn’t really mean any harm even when he ends up making sexual advances towards the trusting girl. Where the script should have shown Yuvaan as a young sexually over-active lout who takes advantage of the guileless girl, it instead shows him as a victim and places all the blame for the MMS scandal on the over-zealous electronic media for over-sensationalising the recorded clipping that ‘accidently’ gets on Yuvaan’s phone and ‘accidently’ leaks out.

Though the efforts to portray the perpetrator as a victim are way too feeble and unconvincing, the film does make some hard-hitting comments on the excessive scandal-mongering of television channels.

The predicament of a hapless unsuspecting girl whose intimate clipping with her boyfriend gets leaked out, was far more poignantly put forward in Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D.

I Don’t Luv U tries to balance out too many moral issues and ends up neither here nor there. Nonetheless, tackling a theme as provocative as a sex scandal is not easy. The film tries to weave a tender gentle love story around an MMS scandal. Thought provoking but not salacious, the film derives a modicum of credibility quotient from Ruslaan Mumtaz and Chetna’s sincere performances.

Ruslaan does the emotional scenes far more fluently than the campus flirt act. That’s the problem here. The film takes up a sexual theme, but its heart is just not in it.

Vidya Balan to holiday in France with husband Siddharth Roy Kapur in France post 66th Cannes International Film Festival

Actor Vidya Balan, who was seen walking the red carpet at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival, will set out for a holiday with husband Siddharth Roy Kapur in France after the movie extravaganza. “Vidya is currenly at Cannes and Siddharth is expected to join her towards the end of the Cannes International Film festival. Both of them are expected to be in France post the fest for a small holiday,” said a source close to the actress. Vidya is a jury member at the fest, where India is the guest country this year.

The actor tied the knot with Siddharth Roy Kapur, the managing director, Studios, Disney UTV, in December last year.

People who want a peaceful life better not mess with Ekta Kapoor or they will get a taste of the telly queen’s wrath! Though Ekta has apparently mellowed down and all and stopped chucking cell phones at people – something she was notorious for – she may not stop from taking legal recourse towards those who irk her!

The latest to get a dose of her temper is Siddharth Jain, who was co-producing Rock the Shaadi with stars Abhay Deol and Genelia D’Souza. According to Ekta, Jain has been managing the film quite haphazardly and has gone overboard with the budget in the first schedule itself. “The movie was in such a financial mess that after the first schedule itself, it became impossible for Balaji Motion Pictures to take it over and recover the investment,” said a source close to the project.

Apparently, the movie, which went on floors in October 2011, was scrapped after the first schedule itself owing to a number of spats between director Navdeep Singh and VFX specialist Niraj Shanghai. After that, Jain had held Abhay responsible for the delays. But Abhay retorted saying, “Both producer Ekta and me really want to complete the film. 40 minutes are ready and it is looking really good. The film has everything that a commercial pot-boiler needs. But Siddharth has messed it up.”

So seems like Ekta’s wrath is warranted considering the film could not see the light of the day. She has now filed a case against Jain for recovering her dues.

Thieves make off with Chopard diamonds worth a million dollar

The 66th International Cannes Film Festival, a venue for some best cinema from the world over, saw a heist take place yesterday – befitting a film story, as thieves made off with diamond jewellery worth a million dollar by the famed jeweller Chopard.

Apparently, thieves sneaked into the rooms of one of the employees of the iconic Swiss jeweller and carried out the theft swiftly. The jewellery was brought to the venue for celebrities like Sonam Kapoor to wear these rocks, as the celebs don’t own them, but merely loan it. (Remember Sonam wearing an intricate Chopard neck piece?)

Well, we hope the rocks are recovered, and that Sonam, if she was planning to loan any more from the looted jeweller, has carried some extra sparkles with her!

Big B and the Titanic dude set the ball of the Cannes film festival rolling

The 66^th Cannes International Film Festival opened with French actor Audrey Tautou inviting The Great Gatsby actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Amitabh Bachchan to come on stage, as the crowd greeted the superstars with a great round of applause. The two men shined in their tuxedos – Big B a tad too much in his glittery blazer. While Leo spoke a few words about his film, Amitabh, in his rich baritone, expressed his gratitude to the organisers for inviting him to the fest.

He also spoke a few words in Hindi and enlightened the audience about Indian cinema’s journey of 100 years. He was addressed as the King of Bollywood by Audrey, as Vidya Balan who’s a part of the jury watched the whole ceremony with great pride. The two handsome men opened the fest in their own style – and that was indeed a pleasure!

The promo of this movie looks highly promising, very hatke and visually enriching. Since it’s a period drama, the young director has worked diligently to get every minute detail and nuance right. Sung beautifully by Monali Thakur, this number is fresh, hummable and extremely melodious. Amit Tridevi’s composition makes it charming and it certainly will evoke those tingling mushy feeling in you. The teaser of Singam 2, the long-awaited sequel to Singam, has just been released and Suriya fans can expect to see their hero in full-on action mode

The teaser of director Hari’s Singam 2, starring superstar Suriya in the lead role, draws parallels between the film’s protagonist and a raging lion as Suriya goes about leaping, running and fighting. Somehow, you can’t help thinking it’s going to be one more of those dishoom dishoom flicks, even if Hari is quite a master of the cop film genre and knows how to make his films racy and watchable.

We get only a fleeting glimpse of the film’s leading lady, Anushka Shetty, so is she going to be no more than a hunk accessory? Character artistes and veteran performers Manorama and Vijayakumar make a reassuring appearance and we know at least some classic acting is on the cards. The music sets the mood for a non-stop action fest.
