AR Rahman is concerned about ‘Hosanna’ controversy

After running into controversy for usage of the word ‘Hosanna’ in a song for Prateik and Amy Jackson starrer Ek Deewana Tha, music maestro AR Rahman says he’s deeply concerned about the sentiments of those who appear to be hurt by the song. The word Hosanna means glory. It is a prayer in the Bible and is very sacred to Christians and Jews. The song is getting popular amongst the youth and Rahman is surprised with the objection raised against this romantic song. A certain sect from the Christian Secular Forum (CSF) is likely to take legal action if the song is not edited from the film. CSF believes that Hosanna is the cry of praise or adoration shouted in recognition of Jesus and it should not be used in a film under the name of creative expression. “I had spent several months doing research before composing and writing the songs for the film. I had also consulted friends, who are Christian, about the usage of the word Hosanna,” said Rahman in an interview to a daily. Though the intention behind using the word was not to insult any religion, unfortunately it has raised a few hackles. Hopefully the makers of the film and AR Rahman come up with a creative solution to this problem.
