Gautam Rajadhyaksha was a skillful writer as well: Sanjay Surkar, Marathi film director

Gautam Rajadhyaksha was an all-rounder, best known for his photography. But he was a good writer as well – his story for a Marathi movie, Sakhi, directed by Marathi director Sanjay Surkar, is still greatly appreciated. Sanjay says, “Gautam was a very close friend; we knew each other right from the beginning of my career. He was the best photographer, but he also had the skill to write stories for dramas and movies. His innocence was simply amazing. And that has reflected in his story of Sakhi. There was softness in his personality. When we went to his house, we always felt like we were in some other universe. His entire home is full of his photographs. Gautam had a positive energy in him, and he was always hoping for one more film to write.”

Actor Sonali Kulkarni played the lead role in Sakhi. She remembered how Gautam gave her a lot of confidence and self respect from the start of their friendship. “I knew Gautam since my first photoshoot in 1998. Apart from being the best photographer, he was very fond of Indian classical music and Marathi literature. He loved each and every art form. With Sakhi, he never forced his ‘writer’ attitude on us while on the sets of the movie. His passing away is a huge loss to the Marathi and Hindi film industries.”
