Injured ‘RA.One’ animator Charu Khandal begins to speak and eat

On March 25, when Charu Khandal was brought into hospital after an accident, her last words before slipping into a coma were, “Someone please water my plants or they’ll die.” The animator, who had worked on Shahrukh Khan’s film RA.One, has had a successful surgery since and may soon be shifted out of the intensive care unit. The otherwise vivacious and cheerful 28-year-old girl began talking on Monday after a month and half. And the first thing she said was, “Doc, can I have some greenery around here.”

Charu who was the victim of a drunk driving case has now started consuming solid food. After a successful spine surgery, the animator is still paralysed neck down. According to the doctors, she is expected to be moved out of the ICU in a week or so post which she will have regular physiotherapy sessions. Her mother, sister and fiancé who’ve taken turns to be by her side through the whole episode finally breathed a sigh of relief and shared pictures of Charu smiling and whistling.
