Actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada turns 50 today, and thus begins a golden era in her life. She was born in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. She has starred in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali and Marathi films. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress for Saagara Sangamam (1983) and Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in south. Jaya Prada made a successful team, not just with Amitabh Bachchan and Jeetendra, but also with her immediate screen rival Sridevi, with whom she acted in about a dozen films. Their hit Telugu film Devata (1982) where they played sisters who made big sacrifices for each other, was remade into the hit Hindi film Tohfaa (1984).
