At 60, we expected Om Puri to have more discretion. Last Friday, as part of the Anna Hazare protest meet at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, he was passionate about his feelings against politicians. He said, “I feel ashamed when an IAS or IPS officer salutes a ganwar (illiterate) who is a neta (political leader). Yeh anpadh hain, inka kya background hai? Aadhe se zyaada MP ganwaar hain….” And that has got him in fairly serious trouble, since Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar announced today that she is considering a privilege motion against the actor for his “derogatory and defamatory” remarks. Puri has apologised, saying, “It was wrong on my part to use such terms. I wasn’t drunk, I was just emotionally charged. I would love to be in Parliament to explain my emotions. If they (Parliament) are still angry with me, I will take whatever punishment they give me.”Subscribe to me on YouTube
