Veteran director-writer-producer OP Dutta who was admitted to Kokilaben hospital at 7pm yesterday (February 9) passed away around 2am on February 10. The news was made official by Abhishek Bachchan as he tweeted, “I receive the terrible news of the passing of Mr. OP Dutta. Father to JP Dutta. The director who launched me,” referring to his debut movie, Refugee, and added, “OP ji was JP saabs writer and dialogue writer. He penned my very 1st words that I ever said on screen. Such a loving man. Full of zest, positivity and compassion. Had a great sense of humor and so rich in experience. He taught me 1 of my greatest lessons in life…” OP Dutta who was currently working on the sequel of Border began his career with Pyaar Ki Jeet in 1948. After that, he directed and wrote scripts for many movies. He even penned dialogues for his son’s movies such as Ghulami, Hathyar, Border, Refugee and finally Umrao Jaan. The Abhishek-Aishwarya-starrer was his last movie. May his soul rest in peace.
