Raj Kanwar, who was well-loved for films like Deewana, Laadla and Andaaz, breathed his last earlier today (February 3) in Singapore. The director had gone to the island country for a kidney transplant but the surgery was unsuccessful. Kanwar gave several of our top Bollywood actors their first break – including Shahrukh Khan in Deewana, and Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta in Andaaz, and Amrita Rao in Ab Ke Baras. He introduced Shatrughan Sinha’s son Luv in his last film, Sadiyaan. He was a well-respected figure in the industry as a writer, director and a producer. Some of his more memorable films include Jeet, Daag: The Fire, Badal and Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega. He was the first filmmaker to team Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai together in Dhai Akshar Prem Ke. He will be sorely missed by his fans. May his soul rest in peace.
