After stealing millions of Bengali hearts by owning the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Shahrukh Khan has now agreed to become the brand ambassador of West Bengal on a special request by the state Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee. The RA.One star was in Kolkata to inaugurate the 17th Kolkata Film Festival. SRK conveniently ducked questions about the enquiry by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the financial irregularities in IPL at the event, but that did not stop him from showering praise on the state he represents in the IPL. Shahrukh in his inaugural speech said that the history of arts, literature, poetry and films cannot even begin without West Bengal. Now that, we think, is a smart move by King Khan who offended many Bengalis by not selecting Saurav Ganguly in the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the last outing of IPL. With SRK confirming that he will be in West Bengal whenever the state needs him, he now has Didi on his side. Is a certain Dada listening?
