The popular actor of the Tamil film industry passed away on Friday at the age of 65, after suffering from a prolonged illness. The actor was said to be suffering from cardiac problems since 2009. She quit acting in films and concentrated her efforts solely on television. She has done over 300 films in various languages besides Tamil. Gandhimathi is known for her brilliant performances in hit films like Karakattakaran, Manikkam, Walter Vetrivel, Chinna Thambi Periya Thambi, Agal Vilaku and Porter Ponnusami. The veteran actor has also worked in many short films to promote the communist movement. She is survived by two adopted sons.
