The actor-filmmaker tackled the sensitive issue in Satyamev Jayate, his TV show that debuted on Star Plus and DD1 on May 6 at 11am

Actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan’s much-awaited television show, Satyamev Jayate, premiered today at 11am on Indian television to glued audiences from across the country. Early viewer responses from social networking sites and websites displayed that people were taking to the show and discussing it as it was being telecast.

The format of Satyamev Jayate is that of a chat show, and Aamir Khan tackled the issue of rampant female infanticide and its repercussions in India in the first episode. Taking the help of real-life cases of women affected by forced abortions, Oprah Winfrey-style, Aamir matched every statement he made with statistics and expert opinion. Moreover, he also promised action on the issue and urged people to join him. And judging from the comments on this story of BollywoodLife, wethinks audience involvement is pretty high in the show.

Satyamev Jayate ended on a positive note with a song dedicated to the girl child.

At 11am, my son fast asleep & my daughter ready & dressed to go out (both grown up), along with my wife were shaken out of their routine and go so rivetted to the TV that they just could not leave till 12:30pm. This show can spark a real revolution & that too right where it matters most (in our hearts). Aamir! Thank you for loving your motherland, we could see that you care and also would like us to care!

Hi Aamir,

Remarkable efforts ,unique concept and depiction of a very painful area so beautifully.Biggest problem in India is that females are not taken as human beings only and cannot speak about it too and so noone knows about their sufferings even the near and dear ones.I am thankful to you for today’s episode as I myself am a victim of domestic violence for 10 years and things were made worse with the birth of daughter and managing her and myself single handedly along with fighting a legal battle.The biggest problem is with people who loook rich but are worse than animals and should be punished for playing with so many lives at the cost of their skyricketing expectations from females.
wonderful job !It touches those more who are sufferers.Please request that females should not be punished /hit for dowry and birth of a girl child as both the things are beyond their control.Males who leave daughetrs like orphans or kill them should be straight away put behind the bars for long.
Education can change the minds of females but deep rooted and orthodox menatlities of few males cant be changed.

Hi Aamir,

I loved the first episode but loving the serial would not be helpful. Something needs to be done. A big step needs to be taken as the country is going in darkness. Only a big actor like you can do this as you are the role model of the society and anything told by you would be followed by people. I will always be there to support the causes.

This is a really great initiative taken by aamir khan..
The best part is that the show focussed on the root cause responsible for the declination of the society..
Female suppression n female death need to be stopped.. U should promote girl education on ur show n should highlight the reasons such as dowries, female harresment in the society from her adolescence, to her marrige until her death; whose fear forces the parents to kill their daughter before her birth..
Every problem has a cause.. U publiclise that cause on national T.V. n we r ready to support u in eradicating it..
For Sure, Togerther we can build a healthier society..

In morning today at 11 o’clock when I was going out for some urgent work, my daughter- in- law just said, Papa, just now one new TV show of Aamir khan named Satyamev Jayate is about to start. I thought it may be some
Ordinery family drama. But when for first five minutes I saw your presentation and your interviews with Amisha and one other lady, I could not move away from TV till 12.30. I am so glad this program has been air in London, because although you are trying to change India there are indian’s all over the world and their mentality needs to be changed also. There are NRI’s that would be using the same tests and doctors for their own narrow minded wants. They will bring their problem to where is can be resolved.

This program is good because it is opening peoples eyes and minds which is better than throw money at a problem.

Keep up the good work, the truth is always difficult to face or acknowledge and someone needs to make the so called rich and intelligent take responsibility for their deeds, and ask the question do they have blood on their hands.

Greed makes for very ugly people and I say that most world issue and problems are created because of an individual who have the get rich quick attitude. It is about awakening the responsible caring person within us.

My mum says you are a genuine individual larger than life. You are not standing alone we are with you. There is nothing to fear.

i watched your first episode of satyamev jayate,i am really impressed that such kind of show has been started by you.i was knowing that you are considered a perfectionist but this episode shows your hard-work and dedication.
i just agree the truth u showed us in your episode,and i really wish that such type of discrimination with girls birth should be stopped.
girls in today world is the only one,who really care for their parents, its nothing like anything, that only boys can do for their parents but not girls,the orthodox thinking must be changed and all must be one to let our India to grow and become a developed country rather than still developing one…

I actually don’t understand how long d judiciary need to judge a case… even when they have sufficient evidences against the culprit doctors…. if not behind bars den atleast their license can be cancelled…. !!!! more den 100 doctors were found guilty.. yet no action… A very well attempt by Aamir khan n his team…. n yes IT’S ACTUALLY working..TOUCHING HEARTS n AWAKING SOULS…. !!!!!

Dear sir please bring one more issue by your program in notice to Indian people regarding Castism and problems when you are going to do intercast marriage. Normally those situations happen in Rajasthan, Harayana, and some may be other part of our country.
at one side we are focusing to bring peoples at same level in all manner and other side we are showing our narrow minded in such manner.
I am PhD student and i have one girl in my life. she is Jatt girl and we both want to do marry. At present since I am facing such problems related intercaste marrige. Both family totally refuse. So please bring this issue in front of all Indian and kindly take feed back,is it right or not.

Sirjee maine aap ka show dekha aur mujhe bahut achha laga aur realy veary appreciable. wakai main bahut ninda karta hoon on logo ko jot aisa karte aur karwate hai. aur saja dono ko hi milni chahiye. ye hamare samaj ke liye ye ek bimari hai. jo ki ye hamare samaj ke sabhi samuday me thoda bahut hai. aisa kyo ?. is show me un logo bhi laya jay do aisa karte hain aur karwate hai aur pucha jai iski wajah, is bimari ki wajah. kyoki bimari ko khatam karne sath sath bimari wajah bhi janna jarori.aisi kya majbori hai?.aisa kyo sochte hai log ? ye app se mera anurodh hai. kyoki manusya kitna bhi bada aur mahan kyon na ho jaye, uski bhichhati me ek komal bhabuk hirdaya dharkta hai. phir bhi aisa log karte hai, kyon ?

main apka dilse sukriya aada karta hoon ki apne ek dhokadayak samajik mudde se apne show ki suruvat ki he.aaj ka show bohat hi badhia tha aur jis prakar charcha ki gai vo bhi bohot interesting thi.
bas ye show esi tarah samajik,etc muddo par charcha kare aur haal nikale , jiske liye hum aam janta aur khaskar main aapke sath hoon.

I am the second of three daughters and an only son.I am in
my fifties and cannot recall a single occasion when my only brother was given special previleges that was denied to us girls.Each one of us was infinitely precious to our parents regardless of our gender.
I have an only child , a daughter very very dear to me and do have friends with only girl child who have no regrets about not having a son.After watching the first episode of “sathyamev jayathe”I realised how lucky I was to be reared in a family without any gender bias.

i am very glad by your this progrrame becoz the naw generation fallow the actor”s advise or message generally rather than general people.you are the idael hero of most of the people so it is good step which is walked by you.i am mother of two preety daughters.my in-laws in the village and they are educated very well.but i am facing this problem when i became mother of second girl baby.i am under dipression but my husband is very much fond father of daoghters so i became relax.but i heard it so many time if we dont have son we go in hell at the end of time ,this is saying by my mother in law but i replied that s good mom if we spend heaven on the earth with are pretty and nice daughters here ,then we dont care of our end in the hell.these things make me strong and give me power that there is no need of son in my life.i am a poetess .my poems are based on hindi social topics.

Once my cousin’s husband said that a daughter keeps even a pin given by parents as a precious treasure whereas the son however much he gets from parents is not satisfied. My parents were so supportive in everything I did and I am very proud of my two daughters who are very independent.

My opinion about the show (1st epi) was it touched every hearts. This show not only showed us reality but,make us to feel what is real face(other)of society.

girl and boy both child are important for our society balance. not only men but most of the women are also killing the baby girl child. now the people are only thinking about there family and family status, they don’t think about socity. But it effects all of us. We all have to think about this serious matter and need to take a quick step.

The problem of female foeticide can be attacked more effectively if we attack its root cause which is our DAHEJ PRATHA.No parent in the world would like to kill their child unless there is some strong reason. The reason is that they are afraid of their daughter’s future after marriage,their daughter’s insecurity in case they may not fulfill the demands of her in-laws.I think the best way to treat a desease is to attack its causative factor.

aapne itni research aur aur mehnat kr k show tv par lane ki sochi yahi bahut badi baat hai.and the one who gave this concept should also b thanked.
secondly facts and figures which were shown were drastic..
i couldn’t come out of the show for atleast 2 hrs.
thirdly the song which were sung at last was really heart touching. it finally made my tears come out which i was controlling since the starting of the show.

Aamir Khan has done it. The perfectionist has indeed proved why he is called so! The magnanimous personality has struck gold with his debut TV show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ that promises to unearth the human in you. The show is not about TRPs and a rat race that believes in slinging mud at rivals. It’s a sincere effort that makes people hope and gives people the courage to stand up against the unsocial.
The very first episode took the damn sensitive issue of female infanticide into lime lite and makes us aware of “the real picture” of our society. Also blows away the myth that female infanticide is mostly practiced among the rural and illiterate people.
similar kind of reality shows are also running on many channels which are full of drama,tragedy, etc.. but this show is far away from all these artificial elements and binds the viewers for 2 hours and made them think about the shown matter.
a big salute to amir and his team efforts for taking this initiative towards the construction of society….

Today’s ur episode I really like it very much.
Now I would like to suggest that our Central Govt should take responsibility of Girl child because normally parents are worried about their future. I mean to say that Govt should provide atleast 1 Lakh after complete thier Age of 18 and provide maximum girl child should get free education facility to till whatever they want learn.So the parents should get some relief.
One more thing I also want to show on ur programe people should must know that every parent must take to growth their child even boy or girl atleast 20 years.
Now I also mention that this boys generation must know their responsibility for those guys who are married. they must take care about their wife’s parents so they feel like have also own boy child.
There are many points are there its not possible to describe and pls continue on this same points because its not only end with this episode keep going on.

hi aamir,……u have done awesome in this show…i must tell u that this topic is actually very sensitive and thank u for taking a responsibility to resolve this…my suggestions please do it…while specifying the Rajasthan govt regarding those docters i think even those husbands and his parents who r forcing their daughter in law to go for it, should be severely
punished because they dont leave any option for women…i think humanity also starts at home….if we dont go for it…docters will not have such kind of business….

This is not the first time I have heard about this, I have been an indirect part of IMA a couple of years back and its not just the in-laws, husbands or relatives who insist on female infanticide but some expecting mothers themselves request the doctor for the same is what surprised me the most. There have been most educated woman from thick backgrounds who came up with such requests.

satyamevjayate site is nt opening but i want to heartiest wishes,congratulations,thanks n kudos to Amir Khan for a great program.Its very nice to see reality.I would further request to schedule a program on pateints of depression, a very major cause growing in society and is effected by millions,one among like me. I support his petition over fast track court.

Great programme – it left us speechless,our eyes were moist through out the programme, right from the introduction until the end with that thought provoking song by the youngsters.
We pray and hope the Rajasthan government springs into action now and takes severe action against the doctors who were exposed by the two daring and brave journalists.

Watching the first episode of satyamev jayate was like a sudden thud back to reality. A very thought provoking and heart wrenching episode. What appalled me the most was that its the educated who don’t understand how precious a daughter is. To all those who want to kill their daughters, stop and think for a moment. In this ever changing world, daughters are the ones who care and love you the most. All my three children live in different parts of the world. The eldest a son only communicates every 2-3 weeks, the other son calls every Sunday and my daughter she calls everyday. My eldest son’s girlfriend keeps in touch with us more often than he does. A ray of sunshine, a houseful of laughter and
free hugs everyday are some of the most cherished treasures a daughter gives to her family.

We watched the first of Satyamevajayate this morning at 11 am British Summer Time and were enormously impressed by the indepth research and simlicity of your presentation of a very important and touching subject. Congratulations.
I liked your emphasis on every one of us taking the responsibilty for our actions and not expect solutions of such problems from the government or its appointed officials. In fact that is what ‘Dharma’ teaches us. We need to act on the path of righteousnes as our conscious and rational decision and not because some religion or some guru tells us. As for the question of change, I agree that you are not there for active change but making all of us aware of the fact that we need to consider the effect of our own actions and change ourselves.

Hello I watched your first Episode of Satyamev Jaayte its was advertised so many times on star plus so I thought Id have a glance of it. I enjoyed the program very much. I would like to say a few words but I would also like you to tell everyone live on TV what I thought. The ladies who came out with their expressions I really feel sorry for them men who cannot treat young girls as their children & think that a son can do everything for them then they are mistaken I have 3 boys & 1 daughter Im so attached 2 my daughter.

Ill come to the main point let everyone know a daughter can do everything what a son can do & remember 1 thing a son is only a son untill he does#t get married after that he is with his wife but a daughter will always remain a daughter so don#t abuse a daughter when I watch your next program I will put in another comment in & post it 2 you please read this comment & tell everyone around the world what I think of daughters views

Amir Khan has done a commendable job including his action plan. But I feel the problem may not be solved only by punishing the culprit Drs and Families. One must ask a question as to why such large number of families do not want daughters to be born to them. The answer is in our “dirty cultural practises” of dawry system folloed by rich as well as poor, aducated or uneducated. Tjhe cultural dirty cuttums need to be changed by wide-spread people education and educating our daughters. Makin mere law or punishing a few may not bring the desired results.

The Issue about female fetus infanticide has been raise few times but it still carries on not only in India but internationally where Indians live.
The reasons given are created by us biggest issue is to keep wealth with oneself which won’t be if it is given to girl who leaves when she gets married.
I am not criticizing the programme perhaps future episode can show so solutions. I think the change will come when girls are educated, given equal rights such as pay, work placements and equal shares in parental properties.
Giving confidentially to pregnant women by her doctor whether to keep pregnancy or not should be her decision only in circumstances where she is under pressure.
I am mother of two boys and I am desperate for daughter I am eager for my boys to have girl so that my longing for girl will be fulfilled. I will be the most happy grandmother when my grand daughter comes.

hi, amir sir. realy proud to see that there is someone who raised this big issue, i live in scotland and i have read in newspaper so many times that india is the worse country who kills girls in the wombs and i was so emmbarresed to read that while i was on the bus.just wanted to say it’s realy sad that people are going against god’s will. there are lots of people who are desprate for a child like me, i’ve been trying for 8yrs but no luck. i still believe in destiny. just want to say at the end i am realy proud of my parents who loved me more than my brothers, i always got what i wanted before my brothers did, my parents never made any difference between us. i hope every girl gets the right to even live their lives if not more importance than a boy. please keep it up. we are with you. hats off for you. reagards harpreet kaur

in our society now a days another disease is that children make their marraiges by there choice without taking guidence of heir parents.and parents in there old age become helpless.they already have spent their life for children ,gave them their savings , pf amt and what not.but childrn know only their rights and they forget their duties,making their parrents sorroful.please show on this subject

I liked d show vvvvv much…Actually I was crying on d complete show…It was so emotional, i cudnt stop my tears. From this show, i hope these kind of baby girl killers will stop their crime at all,,,I dont know that Y these people do so…Y & that too not only in villages but in metro cities as well..Educated people does that. Also, not only the inlaws but even the main culprit is the husband who is also against his wife….U know I & my hubby always want a baby girl & U know my sis-in-law wanted twins baby girls for which she prayed all day night…V love gals & they r so cute..Both Boy & girls r nice….

i missed this episode since i was travelling i am a mother of one lovely daughter,satyameva jayate is indeed a very grt effort from you…. i hope people take this issue really seriously as they dont have a right to kill something which is live specially the women they have to take a stand when they come to knw that they have a girl child in their womb … it totally depends on her if she is willing to give birth no law can stop her, now they are aware what and how they can save that little angel which is surviving within them…. and one more thing i want to share that india is a place where we do kanya pujan at the time of navratras either we shud stop performing that puja or female foitecide………….. enough to shake someones conscience… and all the very best mr amir for this programme…………

प्रिय आमीर, मै लगातार सत्यमेव जयते के सभी एपिसोड देख रहां हूँ. अभी तक जितने विषय आपने उठाए उन सभी विषयों पर आपकी अप्रोच काबिले तारीफ़ हें. आपकी ज्यादा तारीफ़ नंही करते हुवे मै एक ही बात कहना चाहूँगा की आजकल लोंग एक पत्नी के होते बगैर तलाक दिए दूसरी शादी कर लेते है . मै समझ सकता हू की यह निहायत व्यक्ति गत मामला है परन्तु हिन्दू धर्म के अधिक तारं तबको मे यह हों रंहा है चाहे वोंह ब्रह्मिन हों या ज़ेन या अग्रवाल सिंधी यो मराठी हों कोई भीं हों. आखिर पुरुष एसा क्यों करतें है मुझे पता है तालीं एक हाथ से नंही बजती परन्तु यह भी सामाजिक बुराई है जों बहुत तेजी से समाज मे फ़ैल रंही है यदि आपकों सत्यमेव जयते के मंच से इस बुराई के विरुद्ध आवाज उठानी हों तो आप मंच पर किसे बूलायंगे पीड़ित महिलां को या उसके पति को ? कृपया इस बारे मे भी विचार करीए .
