The actor’s first ever TV show, Satyamev Jayate, will be aired on Sundays at 11am

Aamir Khan, the actor-filmmaker known to do things differently, has lived up to this rep for his TV show as well. Not only for its marketing and content, but also its time slot. Titled Satyamev Jayate, the show will air on Sundays at 11am. Star Plus, the channel that will air it, wanted the prime time evening slot for what has the potential to be its biggest show after Kaun Banega Crorepati? Season 1 and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

But Aamir being Aamir, coerced the channel’s powers-that-be claiming that the best time to telecast his talk show would be on Sunday mornings at 11 o’clock. We can almost imagine the TV company’s execs getting goosebumps on this request. I mean, who even wakes up at 11am on a Sunday, especially after the previous night’s partying? Also, Star has apparently spent Rs 6.25 crore on media buying for just the promos of the show. So obviously the channel will be worried about the returns.

But then Aamir gets what Aamir wants. Not for nothing is his biography titled I’ll Do It My Way, is it? . Aamir reasons that since the entire family will be able to watch his show on a Sunday morning, he wants it timed for that slot. Not bad logic, considering iconic television epics like BR Chopra’s Mahabharat and Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, as also Mukesh Khanna’s Superman-esque Shaktimaan aired around the same time and have gone down in history as the most watched and popular shows on Indian television. But will the same logic work a couple of decades later, in today’s times, when viewership patterns and quality and availability of shows has evolved so much? Aamir is taking a huge risk – once again – and he knows it. We just hope it works!
