Activists demand apology from Russell Peters for taking a dig at Aishwarya Rai

World famous stand-up comedian, Russell Peters is known for his jokes, one-liners and racial digs during his comedy shows. The actor was in India recently to promote his film, Speedy Singhs

During his film promotions the actor passed a random comment on the Bachchan bahu, Aishwarya Rai and her acting skills. Russell said that Aishwarya was the biggest example of bad acting and that in Bollywood people can become superstars just by having a pretty face. While sources say that the Bachchan clan are not too pleased with the comedian’s comments, Aishwarya choose to ignore it. What’s unbelievable is that some female activists are more miffed that Aishwarya herself. Shalini Thackeray, president of the MNS Cine-workers Union said to a tabloid, “He (Russell) has no right to talk badly about our actors. His comment on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is indeed in bad taste and will not be forgotten.” The activists demanded an apology from Russell and have in fact asked producer Akshay Kumar to make it happen. The producer of Speedy Singhs, Ajay Virmani who is also a family friend of the Bachchans apologised on Russell’s behalf but we do not know if that’s going to be enough!

Russell himself has said he does not watch Bollywood films, so how does he know Aishwarya can’t act. Not liking Bollywood is one thing, but to comment on an actor or actress’s acting ability without watching his or her films is another. That it ridiculous. There are so many actors and actresses in Bollywood why would he take a shot at Aishwarya Rai? Why only pick on her? I don’t understand it.It’s definitely tasteless & hurtful.Peters wouldn’t like it if someone told him his comedy is horrible. And he’s not very bright, you don’t go to India, a country where people’s life is Bollywood and say it is crap especially when you’re promoting your film. I think this might affect his film. Not many people might view it after his remarks.
