After ‘Ferrari Ki Sawaari’ comes ‘Mere Dad Ki Maruti’

Y-Films has launched its third production – a comedy

If an Italian car can make it to Bollywood, then can our Indian cars be left behind? While Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Ferrari Ki Sawaari is ready for release, Y-Films has begun work on its third production, Mere Dad Ki Maruti. And just like the car mentioned in the title, MDKM is a much humbler effort than FKS.

The Ferrari brand symbolises ambition, power and status, and FKS follows suit. It’s a big banner film starring Sharman Joshi and Boman Irani. If Vidhu has his way, it will mark the Bollywood debut of Sachin Tendulkar. It’s about dreaming big and working towards achieving our dreams. Sharman has admitted that it is a serious film. Maruti, on the other hand, is the common man’s car and MDKM respects that. Y-Films is a small banner (though backed by Yash Raj Films) and stars Saqib Saleem, who debuted in Y-Films’ Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge, as the male protagonist. The female lead is yet to be finalised. MDKM will also mark the directorial debut of Ashima Chibber. It is set in Chandigarh and tells the tale of a young collegegoer who is in trouble when he steals his father’s new Maruti car to impress a girl, but ends up losing it during a wedding. His dream is an immediate one – to find it before his father and the wedding guests realise its missing. It’s being touted as a hilarious comedy.

Together, FKS and MDKM just might succeed in capturing the contrast that is India. Won’t they be interesting to watch?
