Aishwarya Rai Bachchan settles for Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla for Cannes 2012

After a lot of hemming and hawing, the actor has chosen to flaunt traditional outfits from the Abu Jani- Sandeep Khosla couture collection at the Cannes International Film Festival this year

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to ditch gorgeous western gowns and bright shades on the Cannes red carpet this year. Zeroing in on pastel shades and gearing up to showcase Indian handcrafted designs, Ash chose an Indian designer because she wanted to showcase and represent her country’s collective talent to the world, or so we are told. Keeping this noble cause in mind, Ash has chosen to wear an off-white chikankari embroidered sari and a beige churidar set embellished with heavy zari work. As she will be walking the red carpet on May 24 and 25, we wonder if she will be cynosure of all eyes or subject to yet another round of public criticism. Although we hope it’s the former, it’s a li’l difficult for us to wean ourselves away from our incorrigible habit of speculating.

And now that we heard that Ash won’t be accompanied by hubby Abhishek Bachchan – who is dubbing for his films – and instead will be attending the festival with her mum Vrinda Rai, baby Aaradhya and her nanny in tow, we wonder who will Ash’s arm candy be at the do. Will she rock the soiree with her daughter, or is she planning to play the lone wolf? We don’t know that yet, but one thing that’s gnawing away at our brains is, what’s with Ash’s sudden inclination towards promoting Indian designs at the festival, is it her ever-increasing weight that has motivated her to do so? Now that’s some food for thought, no?
