Things are finally looking up for the actor who has been going through the worst phase of his career
After a string of flops, the box office cites Housefull 2 as doing very well. This spells good things for Akshay Kumar, who has been battling a ‘flop star’ tag for a while now, with films like Khatta Meetha, Action Replayy, Tees Maar Khan, Patiala House and Thank You failing with critics and audiences alike. The star who was once believed to guarantee success has Joker, Rowdy Rathore and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2, apart from many others, to look forward to over the next couple of years. And, the story goes, he will reportedly star in the Hindi version of Priyadarshan’s Malayalam film, The Arab, The Camel, And P Madhavan Nair (Arabeem Ottakom P. Madhavan Nayarum) – but we found that both Shahrukh Khan and Ajay Devgn – whom Priyan favours – are vying for that role.
And a short while ago we heard a rather interesting whisper. The birdie we called ‘buddy’ chirped to us that Akki will be working in a new project, a comeback-to-Bollywood film to be made by Rajiv Rai, who directed blockbusters like Vishwatma, Gupt and Mohra, which gave Akshay more visibility than ever. The actor denies the story. Rajiv Rai, you will remember, fled India with his family after an abortive assassination attempt by the underworld and now plans to settle back in his home country and return to his former profession as filmmaker. His forte is masala thrillers and it’s been a while since we saw AK in a role with that kinda dum. So we hope it happens…soon!
