Despite being part of two back-to-back commercial hits, the Rowdy Rathore actor will not stick to doing just masala potboilers
After a dry spell that lasted many years, finally Akshay Kumar is back in business, delivering two of the biggest money-spinners of the year – Housefull 2 and Rowdy Rathore. Though Akshay had been doing films that he is best known for, they failed to work at the BO. He tried everything – action (Blue and Kambakkht Ishq), comedy (De Dana Dan and Khatta Meetha), sports drama (Patiala House); he also did a hatke film, Nagesh Kukunoor’s 8 X 10 Tasveer.
None of them worked for Akki and he was almost written off…and then he made a stellar comeback this year. Interestingly, his past failures haven’t stopped him from taking risks by backing unconventional films like his next home production, the Paresh Rawal-starrer Oh My God. In a recent interview he said, “Hits make you aware of what the audience wants to see you do for sure. But more than wanting to carry it as a tag around my neck, I let these hits balance out safer bets with risky ventures more comfortably. But to be honest, I think, I would always find a way to take risks.” Wethinks it is really brave of Khiladi Kumar to put his money where his mouth is.
