Amitabh’s ‘Aarakshan’ in trouble again

The release of Prakash Jha’s film, which is already mired in controversy, has now been stayed by the Madras High Court

Prakash Jha’s troubles don’t seem to be ending any time soon. His Amitabh Bachchan-Saif Ali Khan starrer Aarakshan, a hard-hitting film on the issue of reservation, has hit another roadblock. The Madras High Court has stayed the release of the film. Financier Madhu Gupta and CG Photo Ltd have filed a civil suit for recovery of Rs 3.75 crore in unpaid dues. The petitioners have accused the producers of the film of not paying the necessary dues and sought a stay on the release of the film on August 12. The petitioners have also claimed that even the cheques the producers gave them were dishonoured. The film has been jointly produced by Feroze A Nadiadwala and Prakash Jha Productions. Earlier, Jha was in the spotlight for refusing to screen the film for the National Commission of Scheduled Castes. NCSC had sought to see Aarakshan even before the Censor Board did to make sure the film did not affect their sentiments. Then just this Saturday, political activists of the Republican Party of India (RPI) attacked Jha’s office and house to obstruct the release of his film. Looks like Jha will have to wait a little longer to see his ambitious film hit the big screens.
