Amitabh Bachchan: I look forward to challenges every day!

BollywoodLife was at Amitabh Bachchan’s office in suburban Mumbai today as the legend of Indian cinema turned 71 years young and spoke from the heart about reaching yet another milestone…

When Amitabh Bachchan turned 70 on this day last year, the superstar wondered why the multiples of ten are given so much significance and why 70 is considered to be a landmark age. Today, a year older, he continues to push the envelope with his solid work ethics, his indefatigable energy for movies and his larger than life persona. Today he addressed the media at his office in Juhu looking amazingly stylish in a Abu Jaani-Sandeep Khosla creation and fielded curious media queries with that characteristic style that is unmatchable!

On his unbelievable energy-

“Yet another year has passed, but I look forward to challenges every day. I would like to work till the end of my life. My contract with Chyavanprash has ended (laughs), but I still have the energy and excitement to work.”

On Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement-

“I heard about Sachin Tendulkar‘s retirement and I felt as if the heart of India stopped for a moment when that news came in. Sachin is a symbol of great excellence for the country. For him to retire from the game is unimaginable. Cricket will not be the same without him. He’s created so many records which perhaps will never be matched by any other individual.”

The best gift Big B received today-

“Blessings from fans and their well wishes has been the best gift all these years.Yeah, today Aaradhya sang for me. Her mother (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) has taught her a song which she was humming. But Aaradhya assumed that it was her birthday, so she was singing the song for herself instead!”

Changing with changing times-

“One must change according to the needs of the time. In Bollywood many things have changed. Technology is improving very fast. New actors, new filmmakers and fresh talent keeps coming in. The old generation has to step back a little to create space for the new generation. I think the new guys are doing some excellent work. I consider myself lucky, as I keep getting opportunities to work with them.”
