The Manjoj Bajpayee-starrer is Anurag Kashyap’s most expensive production to date. The film features more than 350 actors
Considering the number of actors it has, Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming release Gangs of Wasseypur is likely to set a new record. This will perhaps be the only film where the credit list runs longer than a full-fledged song and dance sequence
The Manoj Bajpai starrer has over 350 actors and director Anurag Kashyap has ended up spending Rs 10-15 crore as remuneration to the cast. Kashyap, who has given us meaningful films like Black Friday, No Smoking, Dev.D, Gulaal and That Girl in Yellow Boots, is known for making movies within a tight budget. But with Wasseypur, the 39-year-old is breaking the norm. “Gangs of Wasseypur is not an expensive film per se. But yes, it is my most expensive film. We have a long list of actors who have worked in the movie and that entailed some cost. We have accomplished actors in the film even for relatively smaller roles,” said Kashyap in an interview to a daily.
The film is about a coal mafia in Dhanbad. “Unlike the common perception this is not a serious film. In fact, it is a dark comedy,” insisted Kashyap. Gangs of Wasseypur is slated to release on June 22.
