The That Girl In Yellow Boots filmmaker is all set to woo family audiences with a comedy caper. Will he finally get the uncles and aunties to say nice things about his films?
All those parents and grandparents who cringe while watching grotesque scenes from Anurag Kashyap’s dark and edgy films – like No Smoking, Dev D, That Girl In Yellow Boots, etc – could soon have a reason to flash their 400-watt smiles. The filmmaker has announced his first family entertainer – a comedy caper about a quirky Punjabi family. Wonder if this one is the outcome of all the harsh criticism Anurag has got from film audiences of the rather elderly kind who want to see more candyfloss and less debauchery… Anyway, the people at UTV Spotboy and Kashyap’s team claim that the project, titled Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, will be India’s first food film. Will this one be like the several international food dramas revolving around kitchens and dining tables, like Hollywood’s Julie & Julia, Chocolat, Big Night, Soul Food, the German film Mostly Martha and the Danish flick Babette’s Feast? We shall have to wait to find out more. But we do know that dishy actor Kunal Kapoor and new girl Huma Qureshi (she is also in Anurag’s Gangs of Wasseypur) are paired in this mad comedy. By the way, the Lamhaa actor was earlier to do Anurag’s action flick Doga, which has now been shelved. And we think that’s a good thing, ‘coz we’d prefer to see the good-looking actor romance a pretty young thing rather than kick butt and break bones. Anyway, Kunal and his co-star Huma have already begun rehearsing and are soon to leave for Punjab, where the comedy will be filmed. Considering the number of masala potboilers that have bits of that state in them, maybe Anurag is on the right path to create his first mass entertainer, with sarson fields, bhangra-item numbers and a couple of loud family fights thrown in? We wait to see what he will dish up this time around….
