Looks like the film is not going to have a jodi, jo rab ne bana di

Okay, so the gloaters were off base and the naysayers were spot on. We read this morning and even had our own take on the story that the Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi pair were reuniting in Farah Khan’s new film, rumoured to be titled Happy New Year, starring former foe and now returned-love Shahrukh Khan. Anushka Sharma, who has made her own niche in B’wood with tough young lady roles after Band Baajaa Baaraat, Badmaash Company and more recently Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, was slated to be the lead in this one.

There has been a huge amount of curiosity about it, since it was a reunion of sorts for director and star; you will remember that Farah and SRK were not speaking – for reasons unknown though everyone looked pointedly at FK’s husband Shirish Kunder when they did any wondering – until the fun night when Shirish and Shahrukh got into a bit of a snit and took swipes at each other after a party. During the ceasefire and rapprochement negotiations, things seem to have got sorted out and the next thing we knew, a film project had been announced between the two cold war camps, SRK and FK. After the success of Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om, everyone who has a liking for massy masala movies was all ready and excited about the new one. And we waited to hear which lovely lady would do the sighing and singing with our hero. When we heard it was Anushka, we were happy, but not especially thrilled, and decided to do some more waiting and wondering what the whole thing would finally become. And now we are told, by the doting husband himself, that Anushka is not – repeat, NOT – the female lead of Farah’s new Shahrukh starrer. He tweets tersely in response to a direct question, “NOT TRUE”. So the suspense starts all over again. What fun Bollywood can be!
