Read on to know how the dynamics have changed in the Yash Raj camp
Looks like Anushka Sharma has surely and firmly taken over from Rani Mukerji as the face of Yash Raj Films. Anushka was among the main guests on the dais at the inauguration of the FICCI Frames 2011 convention, where Yash Chopra has been the Chairman of the Entertainment Committee for several years now. Chopra has been adding the glamour element to the event, getting in all the top heroes, heroines and filmmakers to the convention, including Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Preity Zinta and Katrina Kaif among others.
Although Rani was honoured in 2009 as one of the 10 most powerful entertainers of the decade by IIFA-FICCI Frames, the reality is that post the debacle of Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Dil Bole Hadippa, she faded out of the Yash Raj camp. Rumours of her split with Aditya Chopra also did the rounds, until recently when a paper claimed that they were secretly holidaying together (yet again).
In the interim, there were rumours of Anushka being Adi’s new girl. If you look at ratio: Rani last two films with YRF bombed at the box office, which is a 100 percent loss. Meanwhile all the three films of Anushka with the production house have done reasonably well, with Band Baaja Baaraat going on to be one of the biggest blockbusters of 2010. This is a 100 percent strike rate.
So, we don’t know if Rani and Adi’s love story is over, but it definitely makes good business sense for Chopra to market the most profitable star of Yash Raj Films. Shahrukh Khan, who opened FICCI with Katrina Kaif last year, is sure to feel like an outsider now. Already, with Aamir Khan bagging Dhoom:3, SRK is out! Strangely, Anushka debuted with SRK in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. And she seems to have turned out luckier for YRF. Talk about woman power!
