The Oscar winning composer turns 48 today
Born on January 6, 1966, AR Rahman has not only made his mark in Bollywood but is well known face in the international world of music. The singer-songwriter-composer earned the nickname ‘Mozart of Madras’ coz of his extensive body of work. Rahman has won laurels for work internationally too. In 2009, the musical genius won two Academy Awards – Best Original Music Score and Best Original Song – Jai Ho, for Danny Boyle’s critically acclaimed film Slumdog Millionaire. AR Rahman who stormed in Bollywood by giving music to Mani Ratnam’s Roja also holds two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe, four National Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards, thirteen Filmfare Awards South and many more. The supremely talented music composer has won so many awards over the years for his contribution to music that it’s tough to keep a record of the same. Besides being honoured with awards, in 2009, Time magazine placed Rahman in its list of World’s Most Influential People. In 2010, he was awarded Padma Bhushan. In the following year, UK based World Music magazine Songlines named AR Rahman one of ‘Tomorrow’s World Music Icons’.
Interestingly, Rahman shares his birthday with his son. Now that makes this day even more special for the music composer wethinks. So here’s wishing the Chaiyya Chaiyya composer a very happy birthday!
