The Hera Pheri actor has been switching back and forth between action and comedy to revive a flagging career, even as his daughter gets all set for her big Bollywood debut
He changed the spelling of his name and then back again, but Lady Luck didn’t really shine very bright on Suniel Shetty’s career. The actor had a decent run as an action hero in the 90s, but after the hit Hera Pheri, when Suniel turned to doing comedies, it looked like he had made a bad call.
It seems that the Dhadkan actor was urged by his wife and kids to switch to comedy; however, the last decade has seen the action hero deliver a spate of duds and average films. Now apparently Suniel wants to make a comeback as an action hero, playing an encounter cop in a yet unnamed action flick. Is he trying to recapture his glory days? Or does he want to ride the wave of unreal action films that his contemporaries like Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan are surfing so successfully on?
Whatever the reason, the timing for another one of his comebacks couldn’t be more off, as daughter Athiya soon plans to star in her debut role. The 18-year-old formally trained actor, who was initially supposed to be launched by Saif Ali Khan in his home production opposite debutante Armaan Jain, Kareena Kapoor’s cousin, is now debuting opposite Jackie Shroff’s beta Tiger Shroff in Heropanti. We hope Suniel takes a wise call this time and doesn’t ruin his darling daughter’s big debut. He’s taken wise decisions as a businessman, and we hope that this time he will be smarter than his movie choices!
