A nostalgia trip pushes Sallu to take charge
A few months ago, Chillar Party, directed by Vikas Bahl and Nitesh Tiwari, was a film that wouldn’t have secured a regular commercial release, thanks to its arthouse vibe and the fact that it has no star to boast of. Apparently the film is so well-intentioned and funny, thanks to the motley bunch of kids who made it even more endearing, that word got around and UTV Spotboy stepped in. Then the item number composed by Amit Trivedi caught Ranbir Kapoor’s fancy and he decided to do his bit for the film, which took it a notch higher in the popularity stakes. Then the most unusual thing happened – Salman Khan saw the film and loved it, as it took him back to his childhood. The Ready star wanted to take over the entire project and that’s when Being Human Productions was created, but as UTV was already on board, Sallu became co-producer. Now Salman has been very vocal about having nothing to do with niche films as his ‘usool’ is always ‘paisa wasool’, but this is an exception to the rule, as he thinks Chillar Party is a complete entertainer. Wethinks the hunk is trying to follow in the footsteps of buddy Aamir Khan, who earned lot of love and respect from the industry and his fans, thanks to Taare Zameen Par. Last we heard, that Salman was already pulling strings to make the film tax-free so that everyone could see it.
