Though Abhinav Kashyap’s second masala entertainer starring Ranbir Kapoor with parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh opened big on day one making approximately Rs 19 crore, it saw a drastic fall on the second day, earning just Rs 6.5 crores
Industry pundits and trade experts along with the cast and crew of Besharam were anticipating another blockbuster, hoping that the Ranbir Kapoor-Pallavi Sharda starrer could break Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’s record at the box office. But sadly, that didn’t happen. According to Boxofficeindia, “Besharam has had a good first day with collections around Rs 19 crore but it did see falls in collections in the second day. The fact October 2 was a national holiday; the collections should have been around Rs 25 crore.”
Exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi says, “Besharam opened big on October 2 because of the national holiday, but witnessed a drastic fall on the following day courtesy a mix of factors such as bad promotions, a negative word of mouth on the social media and almost unanimously negative reviews from critics.” He adds, “However, the silver lining is the bit of appreciation that’s coming in from moviegoers at single screen cinemas. Here’s hoping that better numbers surface again as the weekend comes by to take the film closer to, if not past the finish line.”
Considering the second day (October 3) collections – around Rs 6.50 crore – the film is now looking to close its first three days total at around Rs 31 crore nett, which is not even in the top three for Ranbir Kapoor. “Saturday and Sunday should see some improvement, but with collections likely to range from Rs 6-8 crore nett over the next three days which could take the five day weekend to around Rs 46-47 crore nett,” predicts Boxofficeindia.
