Bobby Jasoos, Jagga Jasoos, Detective Byomkesh Bakshi: 3 detective films to watch out for this year!

Its July already and there is an array of films lined up to dazzle at the box office. But most of all detective films seem to be a special favourite among filmmakers currently as we are looking forward to three of them this year! Here is a breakdown of all the detective films to look out for this year…

Bobby Jasoos:

Set in Hyderabad this story of a young girl who wants to be a successful detective will hit the theatres very soon. Starring an unsual pair, Vidya Balan and Ali Fazal this women-oriented film looks promising. Vidya will be seen in 12 different avatars and that is the USP of Bobby Jasoos. The producer Dia Mirza believes that even men will equally enjoy the film. The makers are calling BJ a dramedy and hope to entertain the audience with Vidya’s shocking avatars. Vidya Balan is currently on a voracious promotional spree and is hoping that the film garners even more praise than Kahaani.

Jagga Jasoos:

Don’t get confused by the title, it is not a sequel to Vidya’s detective film, the makers probably just ran out of original ideas. This one is one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Govinda, Jagga Jasoos will have some never seen before detective-giri but that’s all we know about the film. Recently Jr RK and Kat’s look from the film was released and both were snapped donning spectacles. Govinda will be playing Ranbir’s daddy in this one. Hmm, curiouser and curiouser.

Detective Byomkesh Bakshi:

Reviving the classic saga of the Bengali detective who was created by the celebrated Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay between 1932 and 1970, DBB will be directed and produced by Dibakar Banerjee. It’ll star Sushant Singh Rajput as Bakshi and we will see the boy-next door in a never-seen- before avatar. The movie set in Kolkata during the World War II in 1942 will delve into the early years of Byomkesh, fresh out of college dabbling in the world of solving crime.

Not much is known about this Mira Nair’s Bengal Detective but we hear that Shah Rukh Khan was approached by the director for this one. At a party hosted by SRK, many spotted the Happy New Year actor having a deep and intense conversation with the Salaam Bombay! maker on the side, perhaps discussing about the detective film. If King Khan gives a green signal to this film it will be his second outing as an onscreen detective, the first one being in Badshaah.
