Bollywood actor Nanda passes away

Another yesteryear actor breathed her last today

Nanda, known for hits like Gumnaam and Jab Jab Phool Khile, died today (Tuesday) morning at her residence after suffering a heart attack. She was 75. “Yes, she passed away this morning after a heart attack at her residence,” the relative confirmed this news.

Waheeda Rehman, who was a very good friend of Nanda, rushed to her residence as soon as she got the news, said a source close to the actor. Waheeda and Nanda had worked together in Kala Bazar.

Nanda was born in a Maharashtrian show-business family to a successful Marathi actor-director Vinayak Damodar Karnataki. She became a child artiste after her father’s demise to support the family in hard times and helped them by working in films like Jaggu in the early 1950s. It was paternal uncle V Shantaram who gave Nanda her first big break by casting her in a successful brother-sister saga Toofan Aur Diya  in 1956.
