Bollywood mourns the death of Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi

The Bollywood brigade remembers the 70-year-old Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi who passed away on Thursday

The legendary cricketer was a lot closer to the film world. Married to actor Sharmila Tagore and with two of his three kids in the industry the B-Town folk shared a close bond with the Pataudi.

Amitabh Bachchan said, “Sad news…Tiger Pataudi passes away!!! Fond memories of the past with Tiger Pataudi…his wedding, playing cricket with him, his tabla playing prowess, social evenings…(He) gave Indian Cricket a ‘rockstar’ image, with grace and dignity…soft spoken, quiet, straight-faced humour and a ‘tiger’ on the pitch! May the Almighty give strength to the family to bear this great loss…Rinku di (Sharmila), Saif, Soha, Saba…condolences and in prayer.”

Filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor described him as a style icon.  “Just heard about the news. Other than the obvious that he was a great cricketer, I feel he was a style icon of that time. He had a regal personality. My condolences go to Saif for sure,” he said.

Ad filmmaker-turned-lyricist Prasoon Joshi termed it a “big loss”.  “I briefly met him, but have been very close to Sharmila-ji for a long time now. It is a big loss, I am very shocked by the news…May god bless the family,” Joshi, who is currently in the capital.
