Bollywood’s airport woes – now SRK and Aftab!

After Minissha, Anushka and Bipasha, it’s Shahrukh and Aftab who faced trouble

It’s good to see that Bollywood stars are also seen to be ordinary citizens of this country these days. And most of them are brought down to earth with a resounding thud when they are indulging in their jet-setting lifestyles. The toughness that they are facing these days at the airport shows that either the authorities are either getting more efficient and, of course, less lenient, or else the stars are not as careful as they may have been earlier. First it was Minissha Lamba, who was stopped at the green channel when she tried to bring in jewellery that she had apparently ‘borrowed’ and forgotten to submit papers for. Then Bipasha Basu got caught too, but this time for her shopping habit, and had to pay a fine. It was Anuskha Sharma’s turn after that, for trying to bring goods worth many lakhs from her trip to Canada for the IIFA awards. Most recently, Shahrukh Khan and family came back into Mumbai after an extended trip, with 40 suitcases; the superstar had to pay Rs 1.5 lakh duty, we are told. But SRK has had trouble not just with Customs, but with Immigration as well – remember that incident in the US when he was stopped and questioned because his name was, indeed, Khan? Just last weekend it happened again, this time to a certain tall, dark and handsome bloke called Aftab Shivdasani, also a denizen of B-town, if you recall. He had been invited by the government of Israel to attend the Jerusalem Film Festival, but when he was leaving that country after the 10-day event and headed to Turkey on a holiday, he was detained at Tel Aviv airport for interrogation. No, it was not a new film he was shooting for, but the fact that he had been travelling in and out of various Gulf nations too often that got the Israeli authorities rather worried. As far as the safety aspect of the whole thing is concerned, we approve. But does it make any sense, we wonder!Subscribe to me on YouTube
