Vikas Bahl’s Queen has not only impressed many Bollywood bigwigs but also the audiences and critics alike. And though the film started on a sluggish note, the box office collections went up during the weekend thanks to positive reviews and word-of-mouth
Last Friday, Kangana Ranaut’s Queen, Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Juhi Chawla starrer Gulaab Gang and Ali Zafar’s comic caper Total Siyapaa co-starring Yami Gautam hit the theatres. The box office battle was well poised with all the three films looking promising. However, it was Ms Ranaut and Rajkumar Rao’s chick flick Queen which got the cash registers ringing. And the credit goes to the curly haired babe and her flawless performance as Rani in Bahl’s directorial venture. Trade analyst and film citric Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Queen Fri 1.75 cr, Sat 3.50 cr, Sun 4.75 cr. Total – 10 cr nett. India biz only.” Gulaab Gang also fared well at the ticket windows but failed to surpass Queen’s opening weekend collection. “Gulaab Gang Fri 2.41 cr, Sat 2.97 cr, Sun 3.46 cr. Total – 8.84 cr nett. India biz only,” posted Adarsh. Coming to E Niwas and Neeraj Pandey’s Total Siyapaa, the film managed to earn only Rs 4.09 crore nett in the first weekend.
One expected Gulaab Gang would create hungama at the box office as it was coming together of the dhak dhak gal and ever smiling Juhi. But Kangy’s acting prowess played a spoilsport for GG and the two B-town beauties that were once arch-rivals. As for Total Siyapaa, Boxofficeindia reported, “The film was meant for multiplex audiences but it could do not much as the multiplex audience preferred Queen over Total Siyaapa.”
Though Queen and GG’s business at the BO has been good so far, their collections may get affected as Ayushmann Khurrana and Sonam Kapoor’s Bewakofiyaan is set to release this Friday.
