Box office collection: Yaariyan gets a bumper opening; Dedh Ishqiya picks up after word of mouth!

Box office collection Yaariyan and Dedh Ishqiya

While Divya Khosla Kumar’s college rom-com got off to a flying start at the box office, the Madhuri Dixit-Nene starrer had a thanda opening on its first day. However, Dedh Ishqiya picked up on Saturday thanks to good reviews…

Last week, Abhishek Chaubey’s Dedh Ishqiya and Divya Khosla Kumar’s Yaariyan hit the theatres. Since the films belong to completely different genres, we expected them to do well, and they did. Divya Kumar’s directorial debut witnessed a dhamakedaar response at the ticket windows on the day of its release. Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, “Smash hit music + terrific promotion + youth factor = Fantastic start at the BO. Yaariyan fetches flying start. Friday – 6.30 cr nett. Excellent! Yaariyan Cost of Prod – 9 cr. P&A – 10 cr. Total cost – 19 cr. Substantial chunk of investment already recovered from Satellite rights.” As per the latest reports, Yaariyan has raked in approximately Rs 11 crore at the domestic box office already.

Dedh Ishqiya, on the other hand, had a dry start on Friday, but with the word of mouth and positive reviews the comedy thriller managed to fare well over the weekend. “Dedh Ishqiya witnessed escalation over the weekend. Biz grew with each passing day”, posted Adarsh.

Though Yaariyan is clearly ahead of Dedh Ishqiya in the numbers game as of now, wethinks the latter will certainly catch up. But we hope it’s sooner and not later, coz next week Salman Khan’s much-awaited Jai Ho will hit the screens. And we all know that when a Salman film releases, no other movie stands a chance at the box office, hai na?Subscribe to me on YouTube

Dedh Ishiqya is really a let down. I was looking so forward to the comeback of Madri nenedixiy but unfortunately the film was too boring and medicore. Yaariyan seem sfun and youthful and the type that welcomes a fresh new generation and seeing them play around really doe4s bring back the good old days. The film wouldnt have the opening the way it did for no reason now would it? I will watch yaariyan this week – can’t wait

Really ? Dedh Ishqiya faltering and the goof up yariyaan fairing well? I don’t really know if the box office reports are true, but if really.. what has come to the taste of youth today. Without any bias towards the presence of accomplished actors in one flick vs payjama jerks, i am solely considering the performances, music, entertainment value. Dedh is hands down winner. Perhaps the bieber loving, yolo swag fag generation won’t know better.
