The superhero action movie earns Rs 21 crores while the love story manages to collect Rs 17.80 crores
Mohit Suri’s Aashiqui 2 opened to decent houses on Friday and continued its momentum at the box office throughout Saturday and Sunday, however strong competition from the Hollywood superhero flick Iron Man 3 seems to have slightly dampened its chances.
On Friday, the Aditya Roy Kapur-Shraddha Kapoor starrer collected Rs 5.3 crores while on Saturday the figures rose to Rs 5.7 crores. On Sunday, the movie maintained its upward swing as it registered an increase of one crore as the earnings rose to Rs 6.8 crores, thereby collecting Rs 17.80 crores in the opening weekend. But Iron Man 3 fared much better, with the opening day collections amounting to Rs 7 crores and the total weekend collections at Rs 21 crores.
“The past three days have probably been among the best weekends of this year for the film industry, with Aashiqui 2 and Iron Man 3 both performing phenomenally at the BO. While Aashiqui 2 has appealed to the family audience in a huge way besides young couples and dominated in the mass circuits, Iron Man 3 has been huge in the metros and driven the youth and children in large numbers to the cinemas,” said trade expert Akshaye Rathi.
