The Anurag Basu film now has the third-highest collections in 2012
The Ranbir Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra-Ileana D’Cruz starrer Barfi! has slowly and steadily climbed the box office ladder to become the third highest grossing film (Ek Tha Tiger and Housefull 2 being the top 2) of the year.
The collections of Barfi! now stand at Rs 120.62 crore nett in India after five weeks, overtaking Agneepath. The steady success of Anurag Basu’s film speaks volumes of how a movie can make big moolah if it stays in theatres longer. Something that Vidya Balan’s Kahaani also proved earlier in the year.
Barfi!’s box office fate was unaffected by release of big films like Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine and Sachin Khundalkar’s Aiyyaa, which did not manage to impress the audiences. But smaller films like English Vinglish (declared semi-hit with over Rs 30 crore earnings) and OMG! Oh My God! (declared super-hit, collections of around Rs 71 crores) did well at the BO.
